Beginning

The name Oleum Flumen dates back to the Romans when, in around 500BC, they crossed the River Ebro and, seeing the rows of olive trees which bordered the river, called the area “Oleum Flumen” meaning “river of oil”.

Since we began 10 years ago our business has been focused in 2 main segments of the market: top level restaurants and catering, and high end commercial sales outlets

We are a company with values and foundations based in:

  • Specialised products in the high end market, with value added at the organoleptic and functional level
  • Traceability from the cultivation of the olive to the distribution of the oil
  • Short series of personalized production giving better flexibility
  • Innovative production and process
  • Respect for the environment and efficient and renewable systems
  • The social implication of small less favoured collectives

History

At Oleum Flumen we set out on a project to make outstanding products with personality. Alchemy and sustainability are united in the creation and production of extra virgin olive oil, vinegar and gourmet products.

Environment

The estate of Las Teixeres in Vinaixa forms part of a group of working estates which cover 180 hectares. The instalations include different spaces that are the base for the making of Oleum Flumen products (EVOO) ACETUM Flumen (aged vinegars) and Uhmm…! (gourmet products)

Not only are there spaces dedicated to transforming and creating but also areas to receive clients and oleotourists.  We have storerooms, an oilpress, R and D space, offices, a tasting room, a shop, a cellar, a carpark and garden areas.

A huge white pine tree set in an aromatic herbal garden is a welcoming sight as our visitors arrive.

“Mas Mariet” was built in 1900 and was originally used by the olive pickers to shelter from bad weather and as a place to stay in during the picking season. The dry stone walls are typical of the architecture of the area.  It has been lovingly restored and one of its rooms, the old dining room, is now used as the tasting room. The old bedrooms have been renovated and are now the company’s offices, the old stable is now the WC/bathroom and the original kitchen area has been maintained, although updated.

The dining room/tasting room has a capacity for 12 people and offers a relaxed space with the perfect temperature necessary to enjoy an Oleum Experience Tasting. The kitchen area provides a space to elaborate and experiment together with our clients, and to develop new concepts in the world of olive oil.

“Era” is situated just in front of Mas Mariet, a shelter for hedonic tastings in the heat of summer and a perfect spot to peacefully sit and contemplate the land during the sunniest hours of a wintery day.

“The Pequeña Boqueria” is an old storehouse where a little of everything and a lot of nothing was kept! Now it is a perfect spot from which to sell our gourmet products. The oleotourist can find all manner of gourmet delights, OLEUM FLUMEN oil and oil products but also other oils, vinegars, wine, cava, jam, chocolate…products which feature in every gourmet lover´s kitchen cupboard. The name “Pequeña Boqueria” pays homage to the men and women who get up day after day in order to provide us with the best thing: a house full of good food.  A little homage to La Boqueria Barcelona,  who have recognised the effort we make every day to offer one of the most basic products we have in our diet: extra virgin olive oil.  All the products we sell in our shop are either produced on our estate or are products that we guarantee for their quality and originality. Proximity is not only measured by distance but also by quality and good know how.  With this environment we can’t help but do our job well, fairly and healthily.

The Vegetable Garden is where we grow our silverbeet, tomatoes, pumpkins and chillies, all of which we use to macerate the olives.

A variety of fruit trees provide us with quality products which we use in our Hedonic Tastings. We grow figs, cherries, pears, pomegranates and quince.

Madonna, Elvis and Micheal share the stable. This family of donkeys helps us to keep the vegetation down between the olive trees as well as keeping the forest clean and maintained. They are also great company! Quite soon Elvis, the youngest, will start to carry loads and in that way contribute more to the work of the estate.

Estate and Olive Groves

ARP Catalunya manages 180 hectares of olive groves over different areas of top grade farmland such as:

  • The Natural Park of Montserrat
  • The Priorat Region
  • Les Garrigues

In this region of LLeida lies the most extensive olive grove, Les Teixeres, with 50 hectares nestled inside 12 hectares of forest. The surrounding hills offer protection from the coldest winter, driving away the snow, while in summer the same hills fend off the searing temperatures with a fresh breeze. The estate is made up of young and old olive trees. With both, we take special care to obtain the best fruit, authentic and outstanding, recognised on the one hand for the strength of youth and on the other for the experience of age.

At Oleum Flumen we cultivate 5 different types of olive: arbequina, gorbal, hoja de sauce, vera and palomar. With these olives we make our high quality extra virgin olive oil, both monovarietal and blends.

The estates are certified by the CCPAE (The Catalan Council of Organic Production)
